    National Pork Month

    Many people love the fall because of all the fun flavors available. Apples, pumpkin and squash are just some of the fall flavors that most can’t seem to get enough of. Here, at Isle Casino Hotel® Waterloo, we enjoy the taste of fall as well, but for a different reason. Ladies and gents, we give you National Pork Month! Throughout the month of October, the nation will pay homage to this tasty meat and of course, we had to get in on the deal too!

    The Pork Love Affair

  • Americans have had a love affair with pork for quite some time now. From bacon to BBQ ribs, pork is incredibly versatile and can be enjoyed in a variety of different ways. Here’s a look at how Americans enjoy pork throughout the world.
  • Pitmasters of the South have roasted pigs for decades. They've taught us all about how to make a smoking hot BBQ pulled pork sandwich. And for that, we are eternally grateful.
  • In the North, chefs really have elevated pork to a new level. Restaurants like The Spotted Pig and Porchetta in New York, and The Publican in Chicago have been serving up pork-centric menus for a while now. Go pork!
  • Even high-end restaurants know a good thing when they eat it. The super delicious and fat laden pork belly still ranks number one in many upscale restaurants around the U.S.
  • Lard continues to be a trusted cooking staple. There’s no need to use manufactured fats, when you can use the grease from pork meat. Try fatback mixed with rosemary. Yum!
  • Everything’s better with bacon. The average American eats 17.9 pounds of bacon a year. We love bacon so much, we’ve even found ways to take it beyond breakfast and incorporate it into every meal. Think the BLT, bacon burgers, or even bacon Bloody Mary’s!
  • Pork is gaining momentum on social media. At one point, there were a whopping 4.1 million posts surrounding the topic of pork.
